NuGrow expands composting operations – Bundaberg Now
A multi-million dollar composting facility that will recycle organic waste streams, including green waste and food waste, into high-quality compost and soil amendment products has just completed construction in Bundaberg.
The NuGrow development will take organic waste from Council areas throughout the Wide Bay area to its new location on Tardas Road, Gregory River.
The company is Queensland’s largest recycler of organic waste by volume and geographical reach and the local facility is expected to compost over 30,000 tonnes of organic waste annually.
Organic materials that normally go to landfill will be incorporated into the area’s green waste to make new products for reuse in the local economy.
Commercial Director Jacob Wilson said establishing a NuGrow facility in Bundaberg ticks many boxes.
“Given the lack of organic recycling infrastructure in the region and the strong demand from the agriculture industry for quality compost and soil amendments, it made sense that NuGrow’s next facility would be located in Bundaberg,” did he declare.
“Furthermore, as Queensland Council begins to explore ways to meet the waste diversion and recycling targets set out in the National Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy, NuGrow believes the Bundaberg facility can provide a competitive and sustainable organics recycling solution.
“The facility also provides a closer disposal and recycling option for commercial waste collection operators who previously had to travel long distances until a suitable facility became available.”
Jacob said that next to the composting facility there was additional land owned by NuGrow, which would be used as a demonstration site to show the positive impacts of the company’s compost and soil conditioners on the health of plants. soils and plants.
“NuGrow also plans to conduct research and development activities at this site as our team continuously explores the latest innovations in waste and land management,” he said.
“This ‘Innovate, Test, Measure, Deliver’ process is a key point of difference that keeps NuGrow at the forefront.”
The new facility aligns with NuGrow’s mission statement of “healthier environments, supporting healthier communities,” according to Jacob.
“Our team is committed to raising awareness about sustainable waste management and soil health,” he said.
“We develop our products and services to ensure that we always improve environmental, social and economic results.
“As an environmentally conscious organization, we understand that future generations depend on sustainable and responsible development to protect, preserve and improve the environment now and in the future.
“Therefore, NuGrow’s new facility in Bundaberg has many benefits for the community.
“These include employment opportunities and economic benefits, as NuGrow uses local suppliers and contractors whenever possible, as well as environmental benefits that come from the diversion of organic waste from landfills and the use of compost / soil conditioners to improve soil health.
“Our goal is to employ and procure services and goods in the regions where we operate; we therefore invite suppliers to contact our teams”.
NuGrow’s Bundaberg facility is located at 19 Tardas Road, Gregory River and is currently open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
