It takes a few moments to experience the Fresh Organic restaurant if you are visiting for the first time.

Located near the Indian River Hospital of the Cleveland Clinic in Vero Beach, the restaurant is tucked away on the right side of the corner plaza of US Route 1 and 37th Street and is easily missed. For those who desire handmade, organic, non-GMO foods, it’s worth taking that extra minute to find them.

The soups are absolutely sublime, so much so that samples are brought to your table for tasting as soon as you arrive. On the day of our visit, we were greeted with a succulent tomato bisque, spicy black bean soup and a tasty vegetable soup. We ordered cups of soup ($ 6), but generous bowls of delicious soup arrived at our table for the price of a cup. Vegetarian and gluten-free soups are offered in the restaurant, and dozens of soup options are frozen and available to take out.

My table mate was happy to see roasted beetroot and feta flatbread ($ 17) on the menu. She feasted on the surprising flavors of roasted eggplant, baby spinach, kale and caramelized onions, as well as beets and mounded feta on a large homemade naan bread, first spread with cheese. with herb cream. He was dressed in balsamic vinegar.

The fresh Rueben fish ($ 16) was my choice for lunch.

Imagine wild-caught white fish, pickled cabbage, spicy mustard, Thousand Islands dressing and perfectly grilled cheese over rye. It was as mouthwatering as it sounds, although a bit messy, like any good sandwich can be. For my side, I chose a kale salad with a nice, slightly sweet vinaigrette. There was a refreshing crunch.

When this restaurant talks about fresh organic, they’re not kidding. Fresh organic produce also applies to drinks and we especially liked the iced teas ($ 4). The Forever Fruit Blend of slightly sweet iced tea had a nice lemony taste with a hint of peppermint.

I ordered raw Thai coconut water ($ 7) but found it cloyingly sweet. When my partner shared my aversion to water with the waiter, she quickly offered to move on to another option. I chose Earl Gray Green Iced Tea instead which was wonderfully refreshing.

We were hoping to order dessert but the large and delicious entrees forbade it. There was a raw vegan coconut chocolate cake and a raw vegan carrot cake on the menu, both at $ 8, which we’ll save room to enjoy next time. There were also offerings of mousse ($ 8) and cheesecake ($ 10).
