SPRINGFIELD – While many local chain stores had empty shelves during the coronavirus pandemic, Bumpy’s Natural and Organic Foods keeps its shelves and counters stocked with fresh produce, canned goods, vitamins and minerals, organic produce, and Moreover.

Bumpy’s, at 908 Allen St. in East Forest Park, is open to the public under rules that include a maximum of 10 people inside the store at one time. It has also implemented a policy of disinfecting surfaces every 30 minutes.

Katherine Fox, communications manager for Bumpy’s, said her team is complying with new regulations, both state and federal, by disinfecting surfaces, including counters, baskets, shopping carts and doorknobs.

Among the most sought-after items in the store, Fox said, are perishable items like milk, bread and eggs, as well as soups.

“People also buy beans, rice and tea,” she said. “Some physically active people are looking for protein, protein P and most importantly what they are looking for is our vitamins and supplements, so we have a lot of people looking for echinacea, elderberry, vitamin C, zinc, flaxseed oil. Fox said she had no problem with shortages, as many of the store’s products are local. She said the trucks arrive on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, so the store is always stocked.

Hours of operation have temporarily changed. The new hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Fox said that Bumpy’s offers door-to-door delivery, “but people can also drive and pick up their order, or we can deliver it to seniors or people who don’t have a vehicle, etc.”

The store also offers gift certificates and gift cards that do not expire.

“We only want to be there for customers and, most importantly, their families. We want to make sure they maintain their optimal health, this is the biggest concern.
